Chicago Sky suffers consecutive defeat against Connecticut Sun

The Chicago Sky lost 80-82 to the Connecticut Sun inside Mohegan Sun Arena on Friday, Aug. 23. Chicago is now 11-17 on the year, 7-8 on the road, 5-10 against the Eastern Conference, 0-3 against the Sun this season and 32-36 against Connecticut all time.

Kamilla Cardoso scored a career-high 18 points in the loss. One game after doing so, Angel Reese again tied her career high of 20 rebounds, which ties the WNBA record for rebounds in a game this season (Reese twice, A’ja Wilson, LVA once). She is the first player in WNBA history to pull down 20 rebounds in consecutive games. She also scored 13 points for a double-double. Chennedy Carter led the Sky in scoring with 19 points to go along with six rebounds and four assists. Lindsay Allen scored 14 points and six assists.

Marina Mabrey led Connecticut in scoring with a season-high 24 points off the bench. Alyssa Thomas neared a triple-double with 12 points, 11 assists and nine rebounds. DeWanna Bonner (15 points) and Brionna Jones (12 points) rounded out the Sun’s double-digit scorers.

Angel Reese passed Cheryl Ford (334 rebounds in rookie season) for third on the WNBA’s all-time rookie rebounds list.

Reese then passed Aliyah Boston (335 rebounds in rookie season) for second on the all-time rookie rebounds list with 352 after Friday’s game.

Reese passed A’ja Wilson (198 defensive rebounds in rookie season) for eighth on the WNBA’s all-time rookie defensive rebounds list.

The Sky return home for a three-game home stand against the Las Vegas Aces, Washington Mystics and Indiana Fever. The first game in the homestand against Las Vegas takes place on Sunday, Aug. 25.

The Sky are 1-1 this season so far against the Aces. In the first game between the two teams, the Sky fell 83-95. The Aces had three players score 20+ points, headlined by A’ja Wilson’s 31 points. Chennedy Carter and Angel Reese led the way for Chicago, with Carter going for 20 points and Reese notching an 18-point, 11-rebound double-double.
