The best team in the NFC South is the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Can they represent the NFC is the Super Bowl? Yes, if they play better than last season.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ strength lies in their offense. Quarterback Baker Mayfield is coming off two consecutive peak seasons. In 2024, he threw for 41 touchdowns despite not having all of his key playmakers available. The team’s receiving unit has been significantly impacted by injuries, with Chris Godwin expected to be out until October and Jalen McMillan sidelined until November. Consequently, the team will rely heavily on Mayfield to lead the offense.
Mayfield played a significant role in Tampa Bay’s success last season, finishing tied for second in passing touchdowns with 41, and ranking third in passing yards with 4,500, as well as in completion percentage at 71%. He was the only quarterback to place in the top three across all three of these statistical categories during that season.
Rookie wide receiver Emeka Egbuka is expected to have an immediate impact from the outset. With Chris Godwin (ankle) sidelined at the start of the season and Kclienton Mcmillan on injured reserve (neck) for at least the first four games, Egbuka has an opportunity to quickly establish himself as a key target for Mayfield. Demonstrating versatility as an inside and outside receiver, Egbuka is a smooth route runner capable of creating separation and consistently being available for the quarterback. Additionally, he competes effectively after the catch. Consider including him on your draft board.
The Buccaneers’ defense struggled to convert on third down during their wild-card playoff loss to the Commanders, prompting them to significantly strengthen their secondary. However, at the linebacker and edge-rushing positions, despite signing Haason Reddick in free agency, draft pick David Walker suffered a torn ACL. Yaya Diaby is still developing his ability to finish plays, and Chris Braswell has yet to demonstrate considerable impact entering his second year.
Expect the Buccaneers to have an 11-win season and a make deep playoff run.
