Miami, FL. – The NBA announced today that Bam Adebayo has been selected to the 2025-26 NBA All-Defensive Second Team, receiving 10 First Team votes and 51 Second Team votes. This represents the 20th occasion in Miami HEAT franchise history that a player has earned All-Defensive honors, including the 14th time on the Second Team. Adebayo has now been named to an All-Defensive Team six times, the most selections in franchise history.
Adebayo started in all 73 games he appeared in during this season, averaging 20.1 points, 10.0 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.18 steals, and 32.4 minutes per game. He became only the third HEAT player to average at least 20 points and 10 rebounds per game, joining Alonzo Mourning and Shaquille O’Neal. He led the team in rebounds for a record seventh consecutive season and recorded 86 steals, marking his fifth straight year with at least 80 steals. This achievement places him among only four players in team history to reach that milestone, alongside Dwyane Wade, Grant Long, and Glen Rice.

Adebayo played a key role in the team’s defense, helping hold opponents to under 100 points in 21 games, with a 17-4 record in those contests. He also outrebounded opponents by double digits in 14 games, with a perfect 14-0 record during that stretch. Miami’s defense ranked fourth in the league when Adebayo was on the floor, marking the seventh consecutive season in the top six. He maintained a defensive isolation allowance of fewer than one point per instance (0.9) for the seventh straight year. Additionally, he contributed to the team finishing fourth in defensive rebounds, seventh in contested shots, eighth in defensive rebound percentage, and ninth in opponent field goal percentage, as the HEAT outscored opponents by a total of 191 points.
On March 3, he surpassed Udonis Haslem for the most defensive rebounds in franchise history and is now only 35 rebounds away from tying the all-time HEAT rebounding record. Adebayo recorded 35 double-doubles this season, extending his franchise-record streak to six consecutive seasons with at least 30 double-doubles. Notably, he achieved a 32-point, 21-rebound double-double on March 21, becoming just the second player in team history to record a 20-20 game through three quarters.
Additionally, on December 18, he and Kel’el Ware each recorded at least 12 rebounds and three blocks, marking only the third time in franchise history that HEAT teammates achieved this feat in the same game.
