Chicago Sky concludes seven-game losing streak with victory over Los Angeles Sparks

The Chicago Sky beat the Los Angeles Sparks 92-78 at Wintrust Arena in Chicago on Friday, Sept. 6. With the win, the Sky swept the season series against the Sparks, winning 3-0. The Sky also moved to 12-22 on the season, 5-12 at home, 7-10 against the Western Conference and 17-30 against Los Angeles all time.

Angel Reese led the team in scoring with 24 points while pulling down 12 rebounds. The Sky had seven players score eight or more points, including five in double figures. Kamilla Cardoso stuffed the stat sheet with 12 points, nine rebounds, two assists, a career-high-tying five blocks and two steals. Chennedy Carter approached a triple-double with 15 points, nine rebounds and a season-high seven assists.

Michaela Onyenwere (10 points), Lindsay Allen (eight points, six assists), Diamond DeShields (10 points) and Rachel Banham (nine points) rounded out the Sky’s key performers.

Dearica Hamby led the Sparks with 21 points, five assists, four rebounds and a season-high four steals while Rickea Jackson notched 17 points, six rebounds, three assists and a career-high three blocks. Li Yueru and Azurá Stevens each recorded nine points.

Reese passed Tina Charles (269 defensive rebounds in rookie season) for second on the WNBA’s all-time rookie defensive rebounds list with 274.

Reese tied Elena Delle Donne for sixth on the Sky’s all-time offensive rebounds list with 172.

The Sky stay in Chicago to take on the Dallas Wings on Sunday, Sept. 8. Chicago is 2-1 against Dallas this season and 27-26 against the Wings’ franchise all time.

The first two matchups between Chicago and Dallas this year came in the Sky’s first two games of the regular season. In the first game on May 15, the Sky lost 79-87 behind 25 points from Arike Ogunbowale and 18 from Teaira McCowan. All five Sky starters scored in double figures in that game, including a 12-point night from Angel Reese.
