Could this be the year the University of South Florida secures the American title?
The odds are in their favor this season.
The offense is fast-paced, but it needs to exercise greater control over the game to support a defense that faced numerous challenges, as USF ranked last in time of possession.

The team’s success begins with the recovery of star quarterback Byrum Brown, who suffered a broken leg midway through last season. When he returns to full health, USF possesses one of the most versatile and dynamic playmakers in the AAC. Bryce Archie served as a dependable backup, demonstrating strong leadership qualities, although he did throw too many interceptions. Overall, he proved to be a reliable second option for the team.
Keshaun Singleton is a reliable deep threat and key player to complement veteran Jaden Alexis. He is returning from a knee injury. Additionally, the team benefits from the contributions of transfers Mudia Reuben (Stanford) and Chas Nimrod (Tennessee).
The offensive line needs to improve in pass protection; however, the unit benefits from considerable experience and the addition of Thomas Shrader (App State) and Connor McLaughlin (Stanford), providing additional depth to the rotation.
Brown is expected to be the primary rushing threat, while Cartevious Norton (Charlotte) is a highly effective back who can help alleviate pressure on the offense.
The defense experienced challenges during last season, finishing 118th nationally in total defense and allowing nearly 30 points per game.
While a pass rush is expected to be effective and improvements on third-down stops are anticipated, the secondary requires strengthening, as it was exposed too frequently. On a positive note, the defensive unit is highly experienced, with many veteran players.
The linebackers are a key strength of the defense. Mac Harris is expected to be a formidable tackler on the inside, while Jhalyn Shuler is anticipated to excel as a disruptive presence behind the line. Overall, the depth at this position is among the strongest it has been in recent years.
The USF Bulls are poised to participate in their third consecutive bowl game, with the potential to do so following a strong season that includes a possible appearance in the American Athletic Conference Championship game.
Set the USF Bulls’ win total at 8.5.
