Florida Gators women’s basketball has been picked to finish 12th in the Southeastern Conference

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida women’s basketball has been picked to finish 12th in the Southeastern Conference by vote of the league’s media members in the preseason poll released Tuesday afternoon by the league.

The Gators return the conference’s top scoring duo in Lavender Briggs and Kiara Smith who combined for a school record 38.3 points per game. Briggs averaged a team-best 19.5 points per game, including a career-high 41 against Arkansas on Jan. 14, 2021.

Smith ended the 2020-21 campaign averaging 18.8 points per game in addition to 6.7 rebounds. The Florida graduate tallied a career-best 36 points against Kentucky in the SEC Tournament on March 4, 2021.

The Gators, led by interim head coach Kelly Rae Finley, will begin their season on Nov. 5 with an exhibition game against Flagler College.
