The Chicago Sky was defeated by the Las Vegas Aces due to their strong defensive strategy

The Chicago Sky lost to the Las Vegas Aces 83-95 at Wintrust Arena on Thursday, June 27. With the loss, the Sky moved to 6-10 on the season, 3-6 at home, 3-3 against the Western Conference, and 20-24 against the Aces’ franchise all-time.

The Sky were led in scoring by Marina Mabrey, who recorded 21 points, six rebounds, and four assists. Chennedy Carter recorded 20 points of her own to go along with five rebounds and four assists. Angel Reese recorded her ninth straight double-double, scoring 18 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. Lindsay Allen recorded a team-high five assists to go along with a season high-tying 10 points.

Reese now has nine straight games with a double-double, extending her all-time rookie record for most consecutive double-doubles and tying Candace Parker (2015) for the most consecutive double-doubles in a single season. The most consecutive double-doubles by a player in any year of their career is 12 by Candace Parker from 2009-10.

A’ja Wilson scored 31 points in Las Vegas’s win, with Jackie Young (22 points) and Kelsey Plum (21 points) among the Aces’ leading scorers. Kiah Stokes led the team with eight rebounds to go along with four points and a season-high six blocks, while Plum and Chelsea Gray (eight points) tied for team high with five assists apiece.

Aces set a season high 11 blocks.

With 31 points, A’ja Wilson extended her league-record streak of consecutive regular season games with 20+ points to 20 games (Across the Timeline).

Wilson recorded her 18th career regular season WNBA game scoring 30+, tying Candace Parker for 11th all-time (Across the Timeline).

Wilson has 12 games this season with 25 or more points, matching her total from last season (40 games played) through 15 games (Across the Timeline).

The Sky take on the Minnesota Lynx on Sunday, June 30 at Wintrust Arena in Chicago for the fourth and last game of this current homestand. This is the first regular season matchup between the two teams, though they played against one another in the preseason. The Lynx are 13-4 this season after an 88-94 loss against the Dallas Wings on June 27. Chicago is 18-24 against the Lynx all time.

The Sky went 2-1 against Minnesota last season. Napheesa Collier leads the Lynx this season, averaging 21.4 points, 10.4 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.2 steals and 1.4 blocks per game. Kayla McBride is second on the team in scoring, averaging 15.8 points and 3.7 assists per game. Former Sky guard Courtney Williams is averaging 9.9 points and 5.4 assists per game, while former Sky forward Alanna Smith is averaging 12.2 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.4 steals and 1.9 blocks.
