Kamilla Cardoso and Angel Reese Both Achieve Double-Doubles in Victory Over the Los Angeles Sparks

The Chicago Sky defeated the Los Angeles Sparks, 90-86, inside Crypto.com Arena on Saturday, Aug. 17. With the win, the Sky improve to 11-15 on the season, 6-6 against the Western Conference, 7-6 on the road, 2-0 against the Sparks this season and 16-30 against the Sparks all time.

Kamilla Cardoso had a career game in the win, recording 15 points (one shy of her career high) and a career-high 14 rebounds. She also finished with three assists, two blocks and a steal. Angel Reese recorded her third straight double-double, finishing with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Lindsay Allen scored a new season high of 16 points to go along with six assists and four rebounds to lead the team in scoring.

With Cardoso going for 15 points and 14 rebounds and Reese going for 14 and 11, it marks the 12th time two rookie teammates each had double-doubles in the same game. Cardoso and Reese account for the last four (Across the Timeline).

Reese passed Teaira McCowan (305 rebounds in rookie season) for seventh on the WNBA’s all-time rookie rebounds list with 312 after Saturday’s game.

Reese passed Chiney Ogwumike (122 offensive rebounds in rookie season) for fourth on the WNBA’s all-time rookie offensive rebounds list.

Reese then tied Aliyah Boston (125 offensive rebounds in rookie season) for third on the all-time rookie offensive rebounds list.

Reese passed Tamika Catchings (184 defensive rebounds in rookie season) for 12th on the WNBA’s all-time rookie defensive rebounds list.

Rachel Banham scored 14 points, making three of her five three-pointers. Her 14 points are her most in a Sky uniform so far. Meanwhile, the Sky got 18 combined points from Isabelle Harrison (nine points) and Chennedy Carter (nine points).

The Sparks looked to be pulling away as they entered the fourth quarter with a 10-point lead before the Sky outscored them 26-12 in the fourth quarter. Kia Nurse led Los Angeles in scoring with 16 points (11 in second quarter). Rickea Jackson scored 13 points, Crystal Dangerfield recorded 11 points and six assists while Stephanie Talbot scored 13 off the bench. Former Sky center Azurá Stevens scored 10 points.

The Sky play their second game of a road back-to-back, taking on the Phoenix Mercury on Sunday, Aug. 18. The Sky are 0-1 against the Mercury this season after losing on Thursday.
