Anthony Edwards leads the Georgia Bulldogs, who achieved gold medal status as they concluded their competition

PARIS – Three Georgia Bulldogs earned gold medals to close out competition at the 2024 Summer Olympic Games. Alongside the three medals won by swimmer Nic Fink, Georgia Athletics closed the 2024 Olympics with six total medals (four gold, two silver).

Basketball

  • Former Bulldog Anthony Edwards tallied eight points, one rebound, and a steal in nine minutes of play as the United States men’s basketball team won its fifth-consecutive gold medal in a 98-87 victory over France. Edwards became the first Bulldog gold medalist in men’s basketball since Vern Fleming in 1984.

Track & Field

  • Rising junior Aaliyah Butler earned a gold medal as a member of Team USA’s women’s 4×400-meter relay team. The Fort Lauderdale, Florida native helped the Americans advance to the final with the top time of the event’s first round on Friday (3:21.44) but did not run in Saturday’s final. Butler’s gold medal is the ninth in Georgia track & field history and the 18th Olympic medal overall.
  • Marie-Therese Obst placed 11th in the women’s javelin finals while competing for Norway. Obst recorded a throw of 61.14m/200-7 on her opening attempt to cap off her first Olympic Games.

U.S.A. men’s basketball team has advanced to the gold medal final, while the track athletes from the University of Georgia are actively competing

Soccer

  • Former Bulldog Croix Bethune became the program’s first gold medalist as the United States defeated Brazil, 1-0, in the gold medal match. Bethune, who appeared in the Americans’ group play victory over Australia, did not appear on the main 18-player roster for Saturday’s final.
