Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith demonstrates success through his quiet determination.
Smith distinguished himself as the fifth player in NFL history to achieve the remarkable trifecta of winning a Heisman Trophy, a College Football National Championship, and a Super Bowl, all accomplished in his home state of Louisiana. The other four players who have achieved this feat include Reggie Bush, Tony Dorsett, Marcus Allen, and Charles Woodson.
“It feels good to be back here and have that support,” Smith said. “To see the family members I don’t get to see during the season, means a lot to me, means a lot to my family.”
During the game, Smith recorded four receptions for 69 yards and one touchdown, making him the first former Alabama player to catch a touchdown pass in a Super Bowl.
Speaking of Alabama. Roll Tide!
Several former Alabama players made significant contributions in the Philadelphia Eagles’ 40-22 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs during Super Bowl LIX on Sunday night in New Orleans.
Including Smith, Alabama was represented by seven players on the Eagles’ roster, including Landon Dickerson, Jalen Hurts, Cameron Latu, Eli Ricks, Tyler Steen and Byron Young.
In the title match on Sunday, Hurts completed 17 out of 22 passes for 221 yards and two touchdowns, earning the Super Bowl MVP designation. He is the first former Alabama player to receive this honor since Joe Namath did so in Super Bowl III. In his fifth year, Hurts also contributed a game-high 72 rushing yards and a touchdown on 11 carries.
“The amount of times we played with each other, I have had the most chemistry with Jalen,” Smith said.
The group became the first former Alabama players to win a Super Bowl since Reggie Ragland and Gehrig Dieter secured the Lombardi Trophy with the Chiefs in Super Bowl LIV.
