Cadillac has received final approval to join the Formula 1 grid as the 11th team in 2026

The Cadillac Formula 1 Team has received final approval to join the sport, backed by TWG Motorsports and General Motors (GM), and is slated to be part of the F1 grid in 2026.

After more than two years of development and with the FIA endeavoring to widen the grid.

Following confirmation from Formula 1 regarding the agreement of commercial terms with the Cadillac F1 team, the FIA Formula One World Championship will welcome its 11th team at the start of 2026. This will be the first entirely new entrant since Haas joined the series in 2016, representing the successful culmination of over two years of dedicated efforts to expand the grid.

“I have asked my FIA team to look at launching an expressions of interest process for prospective new teams for the FIA F1 World Championship,” Mohammed Ben Sulayem said.

The approval of the Cadillac F1 team by the FIA, alongside FOM’s agreement on commercial terms with the team, signifies that the Formula 1 grid will expand to include an 11th team in the FIA Formula One World Championship starting in 2026.

GM/Cadillac’s presence in the paddock will inspire future competitors and fans. Their entry strengthens our mission to push motorsport’s boundaries at the highest level.”

This development ushers in a new era for the sport and represents the first instance in a decade where the grid will feature 22 cars or more.
