Shapovalov secured a victory over world No. 5 Casper Ruud in straight sets, with scores of 7-6, 6-4. His remarkable performance featured 13 aces and a first serve success rate of 72%.

“I felt like I needed to continue to play the way I’ve been playing, controlling the game and playing aggressively,” Shapovalov said. “Casper is a tricky opponent for me. It’s definitely a very meaningful title for me.”

Shapovalov has joined the ranks of Canadian tennis players by winning his first ATP 500 title, becoming the third Canadian to achieve this milestone, following Felix Auger-Aliassime, who has three titles, and Milos Raonic, who has one.

  • This marked the first time for the event to not have at least one American in the final since 2020 (when it was played in New York), and only the second time in the past nine editions of the tournament.
  • Shapovalov improves to 5-25 vs. players ranked in the top five, including his second-round win over No. 4 ranked Taylor Fritz.
  • This marks Shapovalov’s first title in North America (also 2019 Stockholm, 2024 Belgrade).

“It means a lot (to win his first ATP 500),” Shapovolov said. “I’m definitely very happy to have this one. It’s such a nice event here in Dallas. It has been such a pleasure to spend the week here.”

In his eighth ATP tour final, where his record stands at 3 wins and 5 losses, he is the first player since 2019 to achieve three victories over top 10 ranked opponents in a single event, with wins against No. 4 Taylor Fritz, No. 9 Tommy Paul, and No. 5 Casper Ruud. This victory marks Shapovalov’s first ATP title above the 250-level events, where he has a record of 1 win and 2 losses. By reaching this final, Shapovalov has also secured his return to the top 50 for the first time since October 2023.
