Miomir Kecmanovic demonstrated remarkable resilience in the Delray Beach Open final on Sunday, overcoming two match points against him and securing victory by winning the final five games with a score of 3-6, 6-1, 7-5 against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.
“It feels unbelievable to win after losing two finals before and then down 5-2, match points. It was an amazing feeling and I’m so proud of myself,” said Kecmanovic, who finished runner-up in Delray Beach and Estoril in 2023.
The Serbian secured his second tour-level singles title and his first on hard courts by achieving his 11th victory of the 2025 ATP Tour season, which ties him for the most wins on Tour alongside Alex de Minaur.
Davidovich Fokina was on the cusp of securing the title when he narrowly missed a powerful forehand, sending it just wide at the conclusion of an exhausting rally at 5-2, 15/40 in the third set. This moment could have marked a fitting conclusion to what had been an impressive final set up to that point. However, the Spaniard’s unproductive effort during that crucial point seemed to diminish his momentum, granting Kecmanovic a second chance. The Serbian capitalized on this opportunity, ultimately claiming his first ATP Tour title since his inaugural victory in Kitzbuhel in 2020.
“It’s an unbelievable week,” Kecmanovic added. “I’ve worked so hard, I’ve done everything I could right. It didn’t happen for a long time, but I kept believing and I’m so happy to finally win another title.”
The 25-year-old Serbian exhibited remarkable composure during the championship match, as Davidovich Fokina aggressively targeted his forehand at every opportunity, but unfortunately missed the mark on several occasions. Despite the Spaniard’s efforts to recover from a 30/0 deficit with some powerful baseline shots in the final game, Kecmanovic maintained his focus and improved his record to 3-0 in the pair’s Lexus ATP Head2Head series. His performance was further supported by eight aces, as noted by Infosys ATP Stats.
Kecmanovic has risen 12 places this week to No. 42 in the PIF ATP Live Rankings, becoming the first Serbian to secure an ATP Tour hard-court title since Novak Djokovic at the 2023 Nitto ATP Finals. The former World No. 27 will re-enter the Top 50 in the PIF ATP Rankings on Monday for the first time since August.
The two-hour and ten-minute match concluded with Kecmanovic’s success in Delray Beach, but his efforts are not yet finished. After a short break, he will return to the stadium court with Brandon Nakashima to compete against Americans Christian Harrison and Evan King for the doubles title.
Davidovich Fokina, at 25 years old, came remarkably close to securing his first tour-level title. His path to the second tour-level final included impressive victories over two-time defending champion Taylor Fritz in the quarter-finals and fourth seed Matteo Arnaldi in the semi-finals.
