Florida State has experienced limited success in college football in recent years.

Does Florida State possess the talent and resources necessary to be a competitive member of the ACC?
Florida State had 29 players drafted over the three-year period surrounding the 2013 national championship team.
The 2023 team, which finished with a 13-1 record, had ten players drafted. Since then, only three Seminoles from the most recent two teams have been selected in the NFL Draft, and all of those selections occurred after the second round.
Heads will roll if this team does not end season with a winning record.
Last year, FSU demonstrated strong performance, making Alabama appear sluggish in their opener. The team challenged Miami, narrowly lost in overtime to Virginia, and also experienced defeats against Stanford and, notably, double-digit losses to both Clemson, NC State, and Florida teams.
The team’s momentum significantly declined after quarterback Jordan Travis sustained a serious injury during the close victory over North Alabama, and it was never fully regained.

While the previous quarterback, Thomas Castellanos, provided some stability, the addition of Ashton Daniels from Auburn, who previously played at Stanford, represents a valuable acquisition. Although Daniels’ running ability may not match Castellanos’, he is likely to demonstrate greater accuracy and decision-making in critical situations.
Running backs will now have increased opportunities. Castellanos led the team in rushing yards, while the remaining workload was distributed among several other backs—none of whom surpassed 500 rushing yards.
Ousmane Kromah averaged 5.7 yards per carry last season. Samuel Singleton averaged over seven yards per carry. Additionally, Quintrevion Wisner from Texas, a seasoned 200-pound running back, joins the team, bringing additional power and explosiveness to the position.
Losing Lawayne McCoy to Louisville is disappointing; however, Duce Robinson led the team with 56 receptions, averaging over 19 yards per reception, and Micahi Danzy has returned after averaging over 21 yards per catch.
The offensive line requires improvement and greater consistency. Overall, it performed adequately for the running game; however, pass protection was inconsistent at times, partly due to Casetellanos’ tendency to run, which impacted the pass blocking effectiveness.
The Noles have promptly added an immediate presence on the offensive line with the addition of 6-8, 354-pound Xavier Chaplin from Auburn to assume the left tackle position, along with 6-5, 309-pound Chimdia Nwaiwu from Stephen F. Austin competing for the right tackle spot.
Overall, aside from Chaplin, the rest of the offensive line will need to work together to establish the leading five starters.
Is Ashton Daniels prepared to perform at an exceptional level? Over his three years at Stanford, he demonstrated effort but also experienced a high number of interceptions.
At Auburn, he was not consistently the starting quarterback for most of the season—particularly with Jackson Arnold on the roster—and displayed some inconsistency in his play.
He highlighted his potential with a strong performance in the win against Arkansas and in a competitive loss to Vanderbilt, but his performance was less consistent in games against Kentucky and Alabama.
The 2024 season presented some challenges for the Texas running game. While the running backs were not outstanding, the offensive line also faced difficulties, which impacted overall performance.
Quintrevion Wisner totaled over 1,000 rushing yards and 44 receptions during the 2024 season. In the previous year, he was dealing with injuries for a period, rushing for nearly 600 yards and catching 22 passes. When healthy, Wisner can significantly contribute to the offense by being a versatile and reliable all-purpose back.
The defense showed notable improvement in defensive coordinator Tony White’s first season. While there were challenges against the run and occasional lapses in critical moments, overall, the unit represented a significant upgrade from the previous year’s performance.
The Seminoles have the potential to improve, and they demonstrated strong moments during last season. Success ultimately depends on maintaining a high standard of performance each week, even if the overall talent level isn’t at its peak.
