Now, are you a believer in the Miami Hurricanes?
The Hurricanes defense made it look easy; the offense still needs to iron out some wrinkles however the beat goes on as they blew away the No. 13 ranked Virginia Tech Hokies 28-10 at home in front of nearly 64,000 fans in attendance for the nationally televised primetime game.
Malik Rosier threw for two touchdowns passes and scored another using his feet. Travis Homer is filling in just fine for the injured Mark Walton. Homer had a 64-yard touchdown run.
“I guess we all know the stat that means the most, and that is the victory,” Miami head coach Mark Richt said. “Best game of the year in my opinion against a super quality opponent.”
Rosier finished 10 of 21 passing for 193 yards and threw three interceptions. He is now 9-0 as a starter. Homer had 14 carries and 95 yards rushing. Hurricanes finished with balanced 429 yards of total offense. After winning their last four games by a combined 18 points, they took down the defending ACC coastal champions convincingly.
The Hokies were 39-3 since 1996 when intercepting at least three passes and were 4-0 against Miami when having that many.
“The U” is 8-0 overall 6-0 in the coastal division. All the Hurricanes have to do is win one more or any other league loss by Virginia would be enough to send the Hurricanes to the ACC title game for the first time. They were not favored in this game even though they were undefeated.
Hurricanes defense is getting it done. The offense is still a work in progress after eight games played in the season furthermore still figuring it out. Miami’s defense played with intensity and discipline.
“It is like magical. It is like love you can’t really explain it.” Linebacker Shaquille Quarterman stated. “When you have the offense performing like they do. Even bouncing back from turnovers. You have a defense playing relentlessly throughout the duration of the game; then you have special teams. Rarely do you get a situation when all three phases dominate the other team.”
You get a turnover chain. You get a turnover chain. I was sold on the defense the entire night. The defense forced four turnovers. From start to finish it was a dominant win. This was the first time in years Miami looked like a legitimate top ten team.
Alex Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez were in attendance in their suite with many appearances on the four jumbo screens at Hard Rock Stadium. They may only be sitting in the suites the next game.
Notre Dame visiting Miami is sold out only the suites remain available.
If “The U” wants to be back. They have to overthrow the best at the highest level. The Fighting Irish who are ranked third by the college football playoff committee, 8-1 overall will be the next and best test of the season for the Hurricanes. Miami’s FBS-leading 13 game win streak will be on the line and much more.
