The Miami Dolphins appear to be the best team in the AFC again.
Rookie running back De’Von Achane finished with 151 yards rushing and a 76-yard rushing touchdown. Tyreek Hill surpassed 150 yards receiving for the third time this season.
Miami Dolphins took down the New York Giants 31-16 to improve to 4-1 in the AFC.
“It is all about winning the week,” Achane said.
Achane’s 76-yard touchdown run in the second quarter was tied for the fifth-longest in Dolphins history and was the longest run allowed by the N.Y. Giants since 2012.
Achane became the first Dolphins player to rush for 100+ yards in three consecutive games since running back Jay Ajayi did so in 2016
“You don’t just expect that for the rookie to come up and perform the way I have been performing,” Achane said. “So I just hope that I can keep it up.”
The Dolphins have opened the season 4-1 for the first time since 2003.
The Dolphins’ 524 yards gave them 2,568 for the season, the most through the first five games in NFL history.
“They’re real fast. Took a lot of short passes for long gains,” Giants head coach Brian Daboll said. “When you get explosive plays, it usually leads to points.”
The Giants forced three turnovers but only had nine offensive points to show.
Giants quarterback Daniel Jones left in the 4th quarter with a neck injury after a sack by linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel.
“I think we played some physical games against physical defenses. I think we all probably feel it,” Jones said. “That’s football, that’s part of the game. I’m feeling fine.”
The Dolphins got after the opposing quarterbacks today, totaling seven sacks and 14 quarterback hits.
Giants running back Saquon Barkley was inactive for the third straight game with an ankle injury.
This Dolphins team is making the case as the fastest team in NFL history. They have the seven fastest times all season. Hill ran up to 22 miles per hour. This offense is unfair. It never felt close. It would have been a blowout if the Giants did not get a pick-six thrown by Tua Tagovailoa.
Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel knows how to get the football to his playmakers. How he moves Hill around, Achane, and mixes in Waddle is an impressive offense. The “pre-snap motion” is driving opposing defenses crazy and getting them flustered at the right time. The Dolphins are doing things offensively we have never seen in the NFL.
The ceiling for this group is high, especially since they have overcome injuries in the defensive secondary. This game was Christian Wilkin’s best one this season.
It was the best game for the offensive line this season. Terron Armstead was injured. However, those who filled in key spots could open holes for Achane to cruise through holes and protect Tagovailoa; this is one of the more vital units on this team.
You have to win the games you are supposed to win in the NFL. They will be big favorites versus a winless Carolina Panthers team next week. The Buffalo Bills not only lost a football game against the Jacksonville Jaguars today, they lost linebacker Matt Milano to what appears to be multiple lower body injuries and defensive tackle DaQuan Jones to an injured pectoral muscle. That is not good for the Bills team that will have to match up later this season against a vaunted Dolphins offense.
The Giants visit Buffalo next.
The Dolphins host Carolina.
