Words to describe Haynes King throwing a 44-yard touchdown pass to Christian Leary with two seconds remaining after the Miami Hurricanes turned the ball over with the game all but won.
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets stunned the Hurricanes 23-20.
“We should have taken a knee,” Hurricanes head coach Mario Cristobal said.
Yellow Jackets went 74 yards in 24 seconds with no timeouts.
“There was no confusion. We were moving the pile, and we had a pretty good drive going. I’m not going to make an excuse for it and say we should’ve done this or that. That’s it. We should have done it,” Cristobal added. “Sometimes, you get carried away where they just finish the game and run it, but I should’ve stepped in and said, ‘hey, take a knee.’
Hurricanes running back Don Chaney Jr. finished with 24 carries, 106 yards and a fumble. Hurricanes argued he was down; referees reviewed and disagreed.
“Yeah, we felt he would take a knee at that point. He didn’t, though. Kevin talked all week; we spent much time on situational football this week. Kevin told the defense all week; he said this game will come down to a fourth and one,” Yellow Jackets head coach Brent Key said. “They were marked short of the first down on third and one. In the huddle, it was ‘Guys, this is what Kevin has said all week,’ and we were able to play two of them, a third and a fourth (down). Kyle got the ball out, and we made a couple of plays at the end to win.
Miami is now 2-7 since 2017 when playing a regular season game following a bye week.
Tyler Van Dyke was 24 of 36, 288 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions.
Georgia Tech hosts Boston College after a bye week. Miami will visit North Carolina.
