ST. PETERSBURG, FL. – Karolina Muchova has today entered the WTA Top 10 for the first time in her career following a breakout season on the Hologic WTA Tour.
Muchova’s position within the elite ranking bracket was secured following her spectacular run to the title match at the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati on Sunday, which marked her first WTA 1000 final.
“I was always hoping and believing that I can be up there, so it’s incredible,” said Muchova. “I can say it now for the rest of my life that I was a WTA Top 10 player, it’s a great achievement.”
Muchova began the year ranked outside the Top 150 and today becomes the seventh player from the Czech Republic since 2000 to crack the WTA Top 10.
In addition to Cincinnati, Muchova 2023’s season so far has seen her reach her maiden Grand Slam singles final at Roland-Garros and the quarterfinals at WTA 1000 events at the BNP Paribas Open (Indian Wells) and the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships.
Muchova also made the last eight at the WTA 250 ASB Classic (Auckland) and posted Round of 16 runs at two further WTA 1000 tournaments, at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia (Rome) and the National Bank Open presented by Rogers (Montreal).
Muchova, who today celebrates her 27th birthday, is the fourth WTA player this season to make her Top 10 debut after Elena Rybakina in January, Beatriz Haddad Maia in June and fellow Czech Marketa Vondrousova in July.
