Jasmine Paolini has today entered the WTA Top 10 for the first time in her career following her debut Grand Slam singles final on Saturday.
Paolini reached the championship match at Roland-Garros over the weekend to secure a rise to No.7 in the PIF WTA Rankings, and becomes the fifth Italian woman to crack the elite ranking bracket after Francesca Schiavone, Flavia Pennetta, Sara Errani and most recently Roberta Vinci, who was last in the Top 10 in September 2016.
The 28-year-old enjoyed a fairytale run to the final in Paris before falling to Iga Swiatek and was the first Italian woman to reach a singles Grand Slam final since Vinci and Pennetta contested the US Open title match in 2015.
Paolini has enjoyed a breakout 12 months on the Hologic WTA Tour, and in addition to her success in Paris lifted her first WTA 1000 title at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships in February. Last year she also made the final at WTA 250 tournaments at the Jasmin Open Monastir and on home soil at the 34 Ladies Palermo Open and is the second player this season to make their Top 10 debut after China’s Zheng Qinwen in January.
In other key WTA Ranking news, Coco Gauff has posted a new career-high ranking of No.2 in the world following her run to the semifinals at Roland-Garros last week. The 20-year-old is the first American woman to be ranked in the World’s Top 2 since Serena Williams the week of May 29, 2017.
