Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic, both pursuing significant milestones at the BNP Paribas Open, have been placed in the same quarter during the inaugural ATP Masters 1000 event of the season.
Neither player is ranked as the top contender at this year’s Indian Wells tournament, where Alexander Zverev will participate as the top seed. However, Alcaraz is traveling to California with the goal of becoming only the third man, following Roger Federer and Djokovic, to win the singles title here for three consecutive years.
At just 21 years of age, the Spaniard has the opportunity to match his compatriot Rafael Nadal’s record of three Indian Wells titles if he successfully secures a third victory. Alcaraz has only dropped two sets during his previous two successful campaigns.
Djokovic has the opportunity to make tournament history by winning the trophy at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden for the first time since 2016. The Serbian athlete is competing for his sixth BNP Paribas Open men’s singles title, a victory that would surpass Roger Federer for the most wins in this prestigious event.
