Carlos Alcaraz, following an early exit in Miami, participated in the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters and successfully secured his sixth ATP Masters 1000 title. How did he achieve this accomplishment?
Following his championship victory on Sunday, with scores of 3-6, 6-1, 6-0 against the physically hindered Lorenzo Musetti, Alcaraz credited his veteran coach Samuel Lopez for offering straightforward words that motivated his successful title run.
“Probably ‘Stay positive’ is the thing that he repeated most this week. ‘Stay strong and stay positive’,” said Alcaraz. “One thing that he told me and probably was the key of this great week was, ‘You have to face the difficulties you have. Face it, not avoid it’.”
“I am really happy to win Monte-Carlo for the first time,” said Alcaraz, who has also taken the lead in the PIF ATP Live Race To Turin. “It has been a really difficult week with a lot of difficult situations. I am proud with how I dealt with everything. It has been a difficult month for me, so coming here and seeing the hard work pay off makes me happy.”
Alcaraz came from a set down in three of his five matches to secure his first Masters 1000 title in 13 months. As a result, the 21-year-old has ascended to the No. 2 position in the PIF ATP Rankings, surpassing Alexander Zverev. With a season record of 20-4 in 2025, he aims to build on his recent success by delivering a strong performance as the top seed at this week’s Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell.
