The Miami Heat announced that they have waived guard Terry Rozier.

Rozier played three seasons with the Miami Heat, during which he averaged 12.5 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game.

Rozier, age 32, is currently on indefinite leave following his indictment in October as part of a federal investigation into illegal sports betting. He entered a not guilty plea during a court appearance last year. A trial date has not yet been scheduled.

Rozier has been formally charged with two federal counts in an indictment related to what the Department of Justice has described as a widespread sports betting operation. He faces allegations of conspiracy to commit money laundering and conspiracy to commit wire fraud.

Rozier reportedly informed a friend, Deniro Laster, that he intended to leave a March 2023 Charlotte Hornets game against the New Orleans Pelicans early, with the purpose of assisting sports bettors in winning their prop bets based on his statistics. During that game, Rozier played only 9 minutes and 34 seconds and recorded outcomes that fell below the established lines for points, assists, and three-pointers. Laster has also been named as a defendant in the case.

Rozier was traded from the Hornets in January 2024 and has not participated in any games this season. He was inactive during the Miami Heat’s season opener and was subsequently detained the following morning. The NBA later placed him on unpaid leave; however, an arbitrator ruled in February that he is entitled to his full salary of $26.6 million.

The Miami Heat currently hold a record of 42-39 and occupy the 10th seed in the Eastern Conference with one game remaining in the regular season. They plan to utilize their roster spot to sign guard Jahmir Young, who was previously on a two-way contract, to a standard NBA contract, according to ESPN.
