Miami Hurricanes football fans saved a falling cat. The Hurricanes’ season is after two games are in jeopardy of dropping.
I was not kidding about the cat.
It is only a sample size of two games; however, there are concerns regarding the Hurricanes offense.
Freshman kicker Andy Borregales connected on a 43-yard field goal with 2:04 remaining, and No. 22 Miami beat Appalachian State Mountaineers 25-23 on Saturday night.
“Mostly everybody was giving me the quiet treatment and just letting me stay on my own,” Borregales said. “ Except for Avery Huff, he came up to me and was like, I’ve got trust in you, I believe in you.” I just went out there and banged it through.”
D’Eriq King threw for 200 yards and rushed for 67 yards. He was the offense for the Hurricanes.
King went over the 10,000-yard mark in total offense for his career, entering the game needing 241 yards to reach the milestone. He is 10 yards shy of 8,000 passing for his career and went over the 2,000-yard rushing mark Saturday.
The ground attack by the Hurricanes appeared to look alive, Cam’Ron Harris rushed for 91 yards and a touchdown for Miami (1-1), and Don Chaney Jr. had the first rushing touchdown before leaving in the first half with an undisclosed leg injury.
Hurricanes linebacker Keontra Smith had an undisclosed lower-body injury in the first half; head coach Manny Diaz shared both injuries did not have a good diagnosis.
Mountaineers (1-1) entered the game 1-18 versus ranked opponents. But it was a 4th down conversion away from upsetting the Hurricanes on their home field.
Appalachian State might be the best team in the Sun Belt.
Jalen Virgil had a 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, and Camerun Peoples finished with 95 rushing yards and a score for the Mountaineers. They quieted the Hurricanes fans with a 23-22 lead with 5:48 left when Malik Williams caught a 3-yard touchdown pass from Chase Brice.
Miami is coming off a dismantling from Alabama, and up next is Michigan State. This game did not help with showing they are ready to host a Big Ten opponent.
There were three lead changes in the second half.
The beat goes on.
Appalachian State will host Elon on Sept. 18.
Miami will Hosts Michigan State on Sept. 18.
