Atlanta Hawks grab No. 7 seed in East, hold off Miami Heat 116-105 in play in game

The first play-in game in the 35-year history of the Miami Heat was unsuccessful.

The Atlanta Hawks improved to 3-0 all-time in the play-in tournament games after a 116-105 win over the Heat.

Hawks grab the number seven seed, led by Trae Young with 25 points. Clint Capela grabbed 21 rebounds.

“To go out and execute on the road shows growth and maturity,” Atlanta Hawks guard Dejounte Murray said.

Hawks outrebounded the Heat 63-39, outscored the Heat 64-46 in the paint, and led by as many as 24.

Kyle Lowry scored 33 points, the highest-scoring game in his two Heat seasons.

Heat will host either the Toronto Raptors or Chicago Bulls in an elimination game Friday.

Hawks visit Boston for game one of an east first-round series Saturday.
