Angel Reese of the Chicago Sky was honored as the WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week

CHICAGO, IL. — The Chicago Sky’s Angel Reese was named WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week, the league announced this afternoon.

This marks the first time a Sky player has received the honor this season. Reese is the 12th player in franchise history to receive the honor, joining a group that includes Candice Dupree, Elena Delle Donne, Courtney Vandersloot, Allie Quigley, Stefanie Dolson, Kahleah Copper, Courtney Williams, Sylvia Fowles, Jia Perkins, Cappie Pondexter and Epiphanny Prince. Additionally, Reese is also only the second Sky player to receive the award during their rookie season.

In five games this week, Reese recorded averages of 16.8 points and 14.0 rebounds while shooting 44.4% from the field and 40.0% from three. During this stretch, she became the first player to reach 13 consecutive double-doubles in WNBA history.

In the July 2 win over Atlanta, Reese recorded a 12-point, 19-rebound double-double. Her 19 rebounds in that game are the most by any player in a game this season. In the following game, a July 5 win over Seattle, she scored a career-high 27 points to go along with 10 rebounds.

During this stretch of games, Reese took sole possession of first place for rebounds per game among all WNBA players, increasing her average to 11.9 on the season. She also ranks first in the league in offensive rebounds per game with 4.9.

In the July 7 game in Seattle, she 13th straight double-double, finishing with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Her 13 straight double-doubles are the most consecutive double-doubles by any player spanning any stretch of time in WNBA history. She broke Candace Parker’s previous record of 12, which spanned the 2009-10 seasons.

The Sky finished the week with a 2-1 record from a three-game road trip in Atlanta and Seattle.
