The Chicago Sky lost to the New York Liberty, 67-81, on Saturday, July 13. With the loss, the Sky move to 9-14 on the season, 4-8 at home, 5-9 against the Eastern Conference, 1-3 against the Liberty this season and 35-35 against New York all time.
Marina Mabrey led the Sky in scoring with a near-triple-double, recording 21 points to go along with a career-high 12 rebounds and seven assists. Her 21-point, 12-rebound double-double is her first points-rebounds double-double and the second overall double-double of her career. Michaela Onyenwere scored a season-high 14 points off the bench.
Angel Reese led the Sky in rebounds with 16 and recorded eight points. Lindsay Allen recorded eight points and four assists while Chennedy Carter scored seven.
Liberty snapped Angel Reese’s WNBA-record double-double streak at 15 games.
Reese passed Chiney Ogwumike (264 rebounds in rookie season) for 11th, passed Lisa Leslie (266 rebounds in rookie season) for 10th and tied Tamika Catchings for ninth on the all-time rookie rebounds list with 276 after Saturday’s game.
Reese passed Teaira McCowan (108 offensive rebounds in rookie season) for sixth on the all-time rookie offensive rebounds and then passed Natalie Williams (109 offensive rebounds in rookie season) for fifth on the all-time rookie offensive rebounds list with 110 after Saturday’s game.
Sabrina Ionescu scored a team-high 28 points on Saturday after scoring 21 to lead the Liberty in Thursday’s game. Kennedy Burke made her first start of the season and recorded seven points, three rebounds, three steals, two assists and a block. Leonie Fiebich notched 13 points and six boards and Ivana Dojkic tied her season high in scoring with 12 points. Jonquel Jones approached a triple-double for New York with 14 points, nine rebounds and seven assists.
With her four three-point attempts, Sabrina Ionescu passed Becky Hammon (909 career three-point attempts) for second on the Liberty’s all-time three-point attempts list.
The Sky take on the Las Vegas Aces in their last game before the All-Star/Olympic break on Tuesday, July 16. Chicago is 0-1 against Las Vegas this season after losing 83-95 at home on June 27. The Aces are 15-7 this season after an 84-70 road win over the Atlanta Dream on Friday, July 12.
A’ja Wilson leads the team and the league in scoring this season, averaging 27.1 points per game. The two-time WNBA MVP also leads the Aces and the WNBA in blocks, with 2.8. Two-time All-Star Jackie Young is second on the team in scoring, averaging 19.1 points, 4.8 rebounds and 5.7 assists per game. Two-time All-Star Kelsey Plum is averaging 18.7 points per game, rounding out the Aces’ double-digit scorers.
The game between the Sky and the Aces tips off at 9 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on Prime Video and Marquee Sports Network.
