Chicago Sky secures a significant road victory against the Las Vegas Aces

The Chicago Sky defeated the Las Vegas Aces 93-85 at Michelob ULTRA Arena on Tuesday, July 16. With the win, the Sky are now 10-14 on the season, 6-6 on the road, 5-5 against the Western Conference, 1-1 against the Aces this season and 21-24 Vegas’s franchise all time.

The Sky’s 93 points are their season high.

Chennedy Carter led the Sky in scoring with a season-high 34 points while shooting 58.3% from the field (14 of 24). Her 34 points were one shy of tying her career high of 35. This is her second 30+ point game this season. Marina Mabrey poured in 15 points to go along with four assists while Michaela Onyenwere (nine points) and Isabelle Harrison (eight) combined for 17 points off the bench. Angel Reese recorded a 13-point, 10-rebound double-double.

Chennedy Carter matched her career high of three steals in the first quarter alone.

The Sky led by as many as 21 points in the first half while the Aces didn’t lead in the half.

The Aces were led in scoring by A’ja Wilson, who recorded a 28-point, 14-rebound double-double to go along with five blocks and three steals. Jackie Young scored 17 points while Tiffany Hayes recorded a season-high 19 points and three assists off the bench.

Wilson passed Marie Ferdinand-Harris (246 career steals) for third on the Aces’ all-time steals list at 248 after Tuesday’s game.

Wilson passed Brittney Griner (1,119 career made free throws) for 24th on the WNBA’s all-time free throws made list with 1,128 after Tuesday.

Wilson passed Chamique Holdsclaw (1,514 career defensive rebounds) for 25th on the WNBA’s all-time defensive rebounds list with 1,517 after Tuesday.

Tonight was Wilson’s sixth consecutive game with at least 20 points and 10 rebounds, a new WNBA regular season record (Across the Timeline).

The Sky enter the All-Star/Olympic break at 10-14. Chicago is represented by Angel Reese in the 2024 AT&T WNBA All-Star Game, becoming the fourth Sky rookie to be named to the team all time. She is Chicago’s 15th All-Star in franchise history.

The All-Star Game tips off at 7:30 p.m. CT on July 20 inside Footprint Center in Phoenix and is available nationally on ABC.

Their first game after the break is against the Phoenix Mercury on Aug. 15. The Sky and the Mercury haven’t played each other this season. Chicago is 18-25 against Phoenix all time.

Phoenix is led in scoring by former Sky guard Kahleah Copper, who averages 23.2 points per game. Brittney Griner averages 18.3 points and 6.4 rebounds in her 15 appearances this season while Diana Taurasi averages 16.1 points. Natasha Cloud rounds out Phoenix’s double-digit scorers with 12.4 points to go along with 7.3 assists per game.

The Mercury enter the All-Star break at 13-12 after defeating Washington on Tuesday. The game between Phoenix and Chicago tips at 7 p.m. CT on Aug. 15. The game will be available nationally on Prime Video and locally on Marquee Sports Network.
