The Chicago Sky lost to the Indiana Fever 81-100 on Friday, Aug. 30 at Wintrust Arena in Chicago. With the loss, the Sky move to 11-20 on the season, 4-12 at home, 5-12 against the Eastern Conference, 1-3 against Indiana this season, and 29-41 against the Fever all time.
Michaela Onyenwere led the Sky in scoring with a season-high 20 points, knocking down two threes and shooting 8 for 13 (61.5%) from the field. Lindsay Allen tied her season high in the first half alone with 16 points and she ended with a season-high 19 points including a trio of three-pointers, tying her season high.
Rounding out the Sky’s double-digit scorers were Angel Reese, who recorded a 10-point, 11-rebound double-double, and Rachel Banham, whose 14 points tied her highest scoring output since being traded to the Sky.
Reese passed Tina Charles (398 rebounds in her rookie season) for first on the WNBA all-time rookie rebounds list with 399 rebounds this season.
After tonight’s game, Reese is at 23 double-doubles this season, a new WNBA rookie record.
The Fever were led by Caitlin Clark, who scored a career-high 31 points including five threes on nine attempts (55.6%). Kelsey Mitchell recorded 23 points, shooting 9 for 13 (69.2%) from the field. NaLyssa Smith (14 points) and Lexie Hull (11 points) also scored in double digits for Indiana.
Clark passed Odyssey Sims (569 points in rookie season) for 11th on the WNBA’s all-time rookie points list.
Clark also passed Diana Taurasi and Aliyah Boston (578 points in rookie season) for ninth on the WNBA’s all-time rookie points list, with 589 points this season.
Clark is the first player in WNBA history with 30+ points and 12+ assists in the same game. She is also the first rookie since Arike Ogunbowale to have three 30+ point games (Across the Timeline).
The Sky hit the road for a two-game trip beginning on Sept. 1 against the Minnesota Lynx. Chicago is 0-1 this season against Minnesota and 18-25 against the franchise all time.
The Lynx beat the Sky 70-62 in the first matchup between the two teams this season, on June 30. Chennedy Carter led Chicago in scoring with 15 points and Angel Reese recorded a 10-point, 16-rebound double-double. Lindsay Allen scored 13 points, including a trio of three-pointers, while Kamilla Cardoso grabbed 10 rebounds.
