Arthur Fils is gaining prominence on the ATP Tour

Arthur Fils, a promising talent on the ATP Tour, has demonstrated that he is a formidable competitor in the present as well.

“I knew from the start it was not going to be easy,” said Fils, whose title run in Germany has also propelled him into the Top 20 of the PIF ATP Rankings for the first time. “First set I was taking care of it, I think I had a little but of luck, but playing great. Then second set he managed to play better than me and to raise his level.

Carlos Alcaraz successfully defended his Wimbledon title

The 20-year-old Frenchman secured the most significant title of his career at the Hamburg Open, where he triumphed over home favorite and 2023 champion, Alexander Zverev, in a thrilling three-set match. Fils showcased remarkable resilience by saving 21 out of 22 break points in challenging hot and humid conditions at the clay-court ATP 500 event.

“Then we closed the roof and when we closed the roof I knew it was going to be just a fight, like a dogfight. You just have to fight until the last point, until the last ball. I think that I’m practising since a long time for this kind of moment so I’m really happy to win it.”

With his victory, Fils has increased his lead in the PIF ATP Live Race to Jeddah to 868 points, ahead of second-placed Alex Michelsen. He is well-positioned to qualify for the season-ending Next Gen ATP Finals presented by PIF, an event in which he reached the final during his debut last year.
