Due to rain, play was suspended during four matches on Thursday night, and two matches were not able to commence. These matches have been rescheduled for today, and the winners will compete in two matches.

Friday marks the Sweet 16 Day, during which all men’s and women’s round of 16 singles matches will take place. Both World No. 1 players, Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek, are scheduled to compete. In the last 16, American representation includes No. 14 Ben Shelton, No. 27 Frances Tiafoe, and wild card Brandon Nakashima on the men’s side, as well as qualifier Taylor Townsend on the women’s side, who awaits the outcome of a second-round match that may involve fellow American and No. 6 Jessica Pegula.

Coco Gauff will commence her title defense as the Cincinnati Open progresses, along with additional updates

Throughout the week, a total of 68 musical performances across various genres will be featured on the Kroger Fan Zone Stage and the Food Court Stage, providing entertainment for fans.

Elina Avanesyan, representing Armenia, is demonstrating impressive skill and determination in her inaugural tournament. Despite facing a setback in the final round of qualifying, she took advantage of her opportunity as a “lucky loser” to enter the main draw. Notably, she has achieved remarkable victories against Grand Slam champions Bianca Andreescu and Jelena Ostapenko in consecutive matches.

The tournament guarantees the crowning of a first-time champion in the Cincinnati Open women’s category, while only one previous men’s champion, 2021 winner Alexander Zverev, remains in the draw.

The presence of puppies can be surprisingly effective in making even the most competitive athletes feel at ease. SPCA Cincinnati provided adorable puppies at yesterday’s tournament event, while Fifth Third Bank generously covered the adoption fees for those who chose to adopt. We have yet to confirm if any players, including Jasmine Paolini, Mirra Andreeva, Matt Ebden, or Daria Kasatkina, adopted a puppy, but there are indications that they were interested.
