The Dolphins make me cry, Miami Dolphins underwhelming after loss to Indianapolis Colts

After missing nearly three games due to a right hip injury, Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson returned to the field. He capitalized on Tyler Goodson’s first NFL touchdown and guided the Colts to two fourth-quarter field goals, ultimately securing a 16-10 victory against the Miami Dolphins.

Miami (2-4) faced challenges again, suffering from turnovers and the loss of quarterback Tyler Huntley to an injury in the third quarter. Huntley did not return to the game, and Tim Boyle took over for the remainder of the match.

“This is one of the toughest places we’ve been, and it felt like this is one we let get away from us,” Dolphins tight end Jonnu Smith said. “We have to have a short-term memory and get ready for next week.”

Huntley completed 7 of 13 passes for 87 yards, including one touchdown, and added five rushes for 20 yards before leaving the game midway through the third quarter due to a shoulder injury.

Boyle finished the game with 8 completions on 13 attempts for 74 yards. Devon Achane had a solid performance with 15 carries for 77 yards. Jonnu Smith contributed significantly by catching seven passes for 96 yards and the Dolphins’ sole touchdown. However, Tyreek Hill recorded only one reception for 8 yards, while Jaylen Waddle managed just one catch for 11 yards.

“We need to get on top and stay on top of each other more in a sense of holding ourselves accountable every single day. There is no, ‘I’ll get it right the next play,’ or ‘I’ll fix this right now.’ We need to get a stop, reload it, get it right and stop those little mental errors,” Dolphins defensive tackle Zach Sieler. “We have a great team. I know we have a great team. We can beat these guys. We can beat any team in the NFL. It’s just a matter of doing the little things right and focusing on those things.”

As the NFL’s lowest-scoring team, increasing Hill and Waddle’s involvement is crucial for improving the team’s offensive performance.

The Dolphins established a 10-0 lead but struggled to maintain their performance.

The Dolphins rushed for 188 yards this afternoon, the second most by the team this season (193 – at New England, 10/6).

The Dolphins’ secondary had a strong performance, limiting QB Anthony Richardson and the Colts to just 129 yards through the air. This is the fifth time the defense has held opponents to less than 150 yards passing.

The defense displayed commendable effort and had the potential to secure a victory; however, turnovers, penalties, a missed field goal, and reliance on a fourth-string quarterback hindered their success. It is disappointing to see a solid defensive performance not result in a win.

The return of Tua Tagovailoa is timely. With Tua at the helm, the team is competitive and possesses an explosive offense. However, the backup quarterbacks faced challenges connecting with key receivers like Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, which is unacceptable. This situation is poorly reflected in both the coaching staff and the offensive strategy.

Provided Tua remains healthy, the Dolphins have the capability to contend for a playoff spot. The defense has proven its ability to perform effectively, and the team has sufficient resources. Additionally, the offensive line has shown improvement, particularly in the running game. However, the turnovers experienced today were detrimental to the team’s overall performance.
