Aaron Rodgers has reached the milestone of 500 career touchdowns.
Rodgers accomplished a season-high by throwing four touchdown passes, which made him the fifth player in NFL history to achieve 500 career regular-season touchdown passes. This remarkable performance contributed to the Jets’ 32-20 victory against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, potentially marking his final game in the league.
“I just need some time away to think about my future in the game, and my future here if they want me to be a part of the next phase or they’re ready to move on,” Rodgers said. “Either way, I’m thankful for my two years here.”
If this marks the conclusion of the 41-year-old quarterback’s career, he has concluded a distinguished journey with a victory and a noteworthy achievement.
Rodgers completed 23 of 36 passes for a total of 274 yards, with touchdown passes to Tyler Conklin, Davante Adams, Allen Lazard, and Breece Hall. Tyrel Dodson intercepted him on his opening throw.
The Jets concluded the season with a record of 5-12 and will be introducing a new general manager and head coach for the upcoming season.
The Miami Dolphins (8-9) required a victory and a loss by the Denver Broncos to maintain their chances of reaching the playoffs.
Neither happened.
The Broncos achieved a decisive victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, who rested their starting players, with a final score of 38-0.
The Dolphins maintained an engaging competition as Tyler Huntley, stepping in for the injured Tua Tagovailoa, connected on a 4-yard touchdown pass to Jonnu Smith, reducing the Dolphins’ deficit to 25-20 with 5:21 remaining in the game.
However, Aaron Rodgers concluded his impressive performance with a 6-yard touchdown pass to Hall with 2:30 left on the clock.
The offseason will also be interesting for the Dolphins.
After the game, star wide receiver Tyreek Hill seemed to want to leave Miami.
“This is the first time I haven’t been in the playoffs,” Hill told reporters. “For me, I have to do what’s best for me and my family, if that’s here or wherever the case may be. … I’m opening the door. I’m out. It was great playing here.”
Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel stated that he was made aware that Hill was “unavailable” prior to a drive in the second half, and he was not informed of any injury to Hill. McDaniel also expressed a desire to refrain from commenting on Hill’s statements until he has had an opportunity to speak with the receiver.
During coach McDaniel’s tenure, the Dolphins have not qualified for the playoffs for the first time.
Dolphin fans can take optimism in the core group of players returning to the offense. The potential for success is promising with a healthy Tua Tagovailoa, De’Von Achane, Jaylen Waddle, and Jonnu Smith. On defense, the contributions of Zach Sieler, Jordyn Brooks, and Chop Robinson will be crucial. This offseason will be pivotal for the team, as achieving more than eight wins is essential for progress. The presence of talented players provides a solid foundation for building a successful future.
There are two aspects to consider when evaluating coaching. Firstly, there are areas where McDaniel can improve, particularly in time management, handling penalties related to the movements within his offense, and the effectiveness of his challenge calls. Nonetheless, he remains an innovative and creative offensive coach well-regarded within the organization. A critical element of the Dolphins’ coaching staff is Defensive Coordinator Anthony Weaver, who has excelled in his role. His contributions to the defense have been noteworthy, and there is concern among players about the potential loss of Weaver given his strong performance.
The Miami Dolphins will not have any players selected for the Pro Bowl this season. This outcome may reflect the team’s overall performance record. Although both Smith and Sieler could be considered deserving candidates, neither made the Pro Bowl this year. Additionally, Hill will miss the Pro Bowl for the first time in his career, having fallen short of 1,000 receiving yards. Despite this, he demonstrated resilience throughout the season, especially given that Tagovailoa missed six games, which directly impacted both Hill’s and Waddle’s performance. It’s important to note that Hill also dealt with a wrist injury that could have been season-ending, yet he persevered and continued to contribute to the team.
