Novak Djokovic is scheduled to return to the ATP Tour this week at the Brisbane International presented by Evie. The Serbian athlete is optimistic that recent practice sessions with one of his prominent rivals will motivate him in his pursuit of achieving his 100th tour-level title.
While Novak Djokovic’s new coach, fellow former No. 1 in the PIF ATP Rankings, Andy Murray, will not be present in Brisbane, the two athletes dedicated 10 days to working together in preparation for the upcoming season. At the age of 37, Djokovic is optimistic that Murray’s insights will assist him in continuing to compete for the most prestigious titles in tennis.
“Being on the same side of the net is actually great for a change because he’s been one of my greatest rivals,” said Djokovic of Murray, who retired from playing last August. “In a way it was strange for me to share all these kinds of insights about how I feel on the court, sharing some of the secrets of what I’m going through, what I’m thinking about, how I see my game with somebody that has been always one of the top rivals. But I’m so glad and very thankful that he has accepted to work with me here in Australia.”
Djokovic is set to begin his campaign against local wild card Rinky Hijikata in Brisbane, marking his first tour-level appearance since last October. Prior to this singles match, the 24-time major champion will partner with Nick Kyrgios on the doubles court, as Kyrgios returns to competition for the first time since June 2023 following a series of injury challenges.
