World Champion Hellen Obiri Debuts in Marathon at the 2022 New York City Marathon

New York, NY. —  Global performance brand On celebrates the successes of Hellen Obiri as she ranked sixth in the 2022 New York City Marathon. Hellen completed the 42.195km in 02:25.49, a significant achievement for the world-class runner in her first-ever marathon.

The result adds to her extensive list of achievements as the only woman in history to win world titles in indoor track, outdoor track and cross country, as well as silver medals at the 2016 and 2021 Olympics. Earlier this year, Hellen took Silver in the women’s 10,000m at the 2022 World Athletic Championships in Oregon.

“Hellen is an exceptional athlete, and after training with her throughout this past summer, it’s no surprise to me what she accomplished today,” said Dathan Ritzenhein, On Athletics Club Coach and three-time Olympian. “As we prepared for the marathon, she was laser focused and took any challenge I put in front of her. I’m incredibly proud of her performance today and I cannot wait to see what she does next.”

World Champion Hellen Obiri Joins On

Obiri set her sights on her first marathon win after a year of rigorous training, aiming to prove that she can be a competitor at any distance. Immediately after her September 11, 2022 win at the Great North Run, she made the official move to Boulder, Colorado to continue her training with the On Athletics Club coach, Dathan Ritzenhein. Her impressive speed, endurance, and champion spirit set her up for success to tackle the challenge of longer distances.

On continues to grow its investment in its athletic program by supporting its training through the creation of outstanding performance gear and cultivating an environment for athletes to succeed. Looking ahead, Obiri plans to continue her focus on road racing in 2023 and sets her sights on the  2024 Paris Olympic Games Gold.
