Sunrise, FL. – The Florida Panthers commenced the season with a victory, continuing their recent success.
Jesper Boqvist scored the game-winning goal midway through the third period, helping the Florida Panthers, who raised their second consecutive Stanley Cup banner, commence their title defense with a 3-2 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday night.
“It’s a great way to start,” forward Brad Marchand said. “You want to start with a win.”
The Panthers improved to a 12-0-2 record in season-opening games played on home ice.

Florida allowed only two shots on goal during three power play opportunities against Chicago.
The Panthers won 60% of their faceoffs.
A.J. Greer recorded a team-high five hits.
Anton Lundell led the team with 14 faceoff wins.
While Brad Marchand was on the ice during even-strength play, the Panthers controlled 82.35% of shot attempts.
This was the official debut for new Blackhawks head coach Jeff Blashill, who previously coached the Detroit Red Wings for seven seasons from 2015-16 through 2021-22 and was appointed by Chicago in May. The Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup in 2015 but have not advanced past the first round of the playoffs since then.
“This is what we love to do, and life goes by fast,” Blashill said. “Let’s make sure we’re enjoying it.”
Chicago opened the scoring midway through the first period on a breakaway by Nazar. Despite being outshot 17-3 in the opening 20 minutes, the Panthers entered the first intermission with a 2-1 lead, thanks to goals from Greer and Verhaeghe, which were scored three minutes apart.
