Andrew Wiggins signs contract extension with the Miami Heat

The Miami HEAT announced today that they have entered into a contract extension with forward Andrew Wiggins.

“Andrew Wiggins has proven to us that he is the quintessential small forward who fits perfectly with this roster,” said HEAT President Pat Riley. “We feel he will be a critical part of what we’re trying to achieve with this team going forward and we feel fortunate that we were able to extend him.”

Wiggins appeared in all 68 games last season with the Miami Heat, starting each one. He averaged 15.4 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.12 steals, 1.01 blocks, and logged an average of 30.3 minutes per game. He was the only Miami player last season to meet or exceed these averages across all categories. Wiggins shot 47.5% from the field, 41.4% from three-point range, and 78.4% from the free-throw line, a career high. He scored in double figures in 60 games, including 14 20-point games and one 30-point performance.

Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis Jr. have signed with the Miami Heat.

Wiggins led the team in scoring in seven games, as well as in plus/minus six times, rebounds three times, and assists twice. Notably, he made a game-winning basket on November 10 against Cleveland, his third career game-winner, and scored his 15,000th career point on February 21.

The 12-year NBA veteran, NBA All-Star, and 2022 NBA Champion has appeared in 834 career games (with 822 starts), averaging 18.2 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 33.5 minutes per game. He maintains shooting percentages of 45.1% from the field, 36.2% from three-point range, and 72.8% from the free-throw line. His career totals include 15,214 points, 3,754 rebounds, 1,937 assists, 818 steals, and 587 blocks. Additionally, Wiggins, the first overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft and NBA Rookie of the Year, has consistently averaged double-figure points in each of his 12 seasons, including three seasons with over 20 points per game.
