Chicago Sky end four game losing streak with win over Dallas Wings

The Chicago Sky defeated the Dallas Wings, 83-72, at Wintrust Arena on Thursday, June 20. With the win, the Sky moved to 5-9 on the season, 2-5 at home, 3-2 against the Western Conference, 2-1 against Dallas this season, and 26-27 against the Wings all time.

Chennedy Carter and Marina Mabrey helped lead the Sky to victory with 19 points each. Angel Reese recorded her eighth double-double (seventh straight) this season, finishing the game with 16 points and a career-high 18 rebounds. Kamilla Cardoso came close to recording a double-double with nine points and 11 rebounds, and Dana Evans recorded 12 points, four assists and four rebounds off the bench.

The Sky led the whole game, with their biggest lead being 22 points.

Angel Reese broke the WNBA’s all-time record for consecutive double-doubles by a first year player with seven straight games with one after Thursday (recorded 16 points and 18 rebounds). The record for any player is 12, set by Candace Parker.

Reese is tied for third-most double-doubles in a players first 14 games with eight double-doubles this season (Across the Timeline).

Arike Ogunbowale led Dallas in scoring with 31 points, 17 of which came in the fourth quarter. Only six Dallas players scored in the game, including Natasha Howard who recorded 13 points and four assists off the bench. Rookie Jacy Sheldon recorded a career-high nine points, three rebounds and three assists in her first career start while Sevgi Uzun recorded eight points, six assists and five boards.

Ogunbowale passed Kelsey Plum (418 career made threes) for 25th on the WNBA’s all-time three-pointers list with 425 after Thursday’s game. She is one three-pointer away from tying Sky assistant Crystal Robinson for 24th on the all-time list.

The Sky stay at home to take on the Fever for their third matchup of the season on Sunday, June 23. Chicago is 28-40 against the Fever all-time and 0-2 this season after falling 83-91 to them on June 16.

In the first matchup this season between the two teams, a 70-71 Sky loss, Chennedy Carter led the Sky in scoring with 19 points off the bench. Marina Mabrey recorded 15 points and nine boards, Dana Evans scored 12, Angel Reese pulled down 13 boards and Kamilla Cardoso recorded 11 points in her WNBA debut.

The Fever got 35 combined points from Kelsey Mitchell and NaLyssa Smith in that first matchup, with Mitchell leading the team with 18 points. Caitlin Clark scored 11 points, eight rebounds and six assists.

Against the Fever on June 16, Mabrey led the Sky with 22 points along with four assists and three rebounds. Carter recorded 18 points, four assists and a steal in her first start in a Sky uniform. Off the bench, Evans recorded 12 points and three assists, Angel Reese scored 11 points.

Clark led the Fever in points with 23 in that game to go along with nine assists and eight rebounds. 2023 Aliyah Boston helped lead the Fever with 19 points, 14 rebounds and five blocks. Mitchell recorded 17 points and NaLyssa Smith scored 15.

The game between the two teams tips off at 3:00 p.m. CST on Sunday, June 23 and will be broadcast nationally on ESPN and locally on WCIU-TV and can be streamed on the Marquee Sports Network App.
