The Chicago Sky defeated the Indiana Fever 88-87 at Wintrust Arena on Sunday, June 23. With the win, the Sky moved to 6-9 on the season, 3-5 at home, 3-7 against the Eastern Conference, 1-2 against Indiana this season, and 29-40 against the Fever all-time.
Chicago trailed by as many as 15 points but outscored the Fever 24-15 in the fourth quarter to secure the comeback victory. The Sky have now won back-to-back games.
The Sky went on an 18-5 run from 6:24 to 0:20 in the fourth quarter.
The Sky were led by rookie duo Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso, who each recorded career highs in points scored, with Reese recording a team-high 25 points while Cardoso recorded 16. Reese and Cardoso both recorded double-doubles, with Reese recording 16 rebounds one game after recording 18, while Cardoso pulled down 10.
Reese now has eight straight games with a double-double, extending her all-time rookie record for most consecutive double-doubles. The most consecutive double-doubles by any player in any year of their career is 12 by Candace Parker from 2009-10.
Reese is also just the third player in WNBA history to record eight or more consecutive double-doubles.
Reese is the only rookie in Sky history to record 20+ points and 15+ rebounds in the same game (Across the Timeline).
Reese is the first rookie with 25+ points and 15+ rebounds since A’ja Wilson in 2018.
Reese and Kamilla Cardoso are the fifth pair of teammates in WNBA history to each have at least 15 points and 10 rebounds while shooting 65.0% or better in the same game. It’s the first time a pair of rookies have done so (Across the Timeline).
Reese and Cardoso become the first rookie duo since 1998 to record double-doubles in multiple games.
Chennedy Carter was two points shy of her season high, scoring 23 points to round out Chicago’s double-digit scorers. Chicago also received massive contributions from Diamond DeShields off the bench, who scored eight points, two steals, a block and an assist. Lindsay Allen recorded a season-high seven assists while Marina Mabrey scored six points to go along with five rebounds and four assists.
Caitlin Clark recorded a 17-point, 13-assist double-double for the Fever, recording her career high in assists. Kelsey Mitchell led the Fever in scoring with 24 points while Aliyah Boston recorded 18 points, seven rebounds and six assists. NaLyssa Smith pulled down seven boards to go along with 12 points while Kristy Wallace scored nine.
Clark tied a career-high with four steals.
Clark’s 13 assists are the Fever’s all-time single-game record.
Clark is the first rookie to record a points-assists double-double since Odyssey Sims did so in 2014 (Across the Timeline).
The Sky remain at home to take on the Las Vegas Aces on Thursday, June 27 at Wintrust Arena. This is the first matchup between the two teams this season. The Aces are 8-6 this season after an 85-74 victory over the Connecticut Sun on June 21. Chicago is 6-11 against the Aces since moving to Las Vegas and is 20-23 against the franchise all time.
A’ja Wilson leads the Aces and the league in scoring this season, averaging 27.8 per game. The two-time WNBA MVP also leads the Aces and the WNBA in rebounds per game with 11.6 (Angel Reese ranks second in the league as of Sunday with 11.1).
Two-time All-Star Jackie Young is averaging 18.2 points per game to go along with a team-high 5.9 assists per game, while two-time All-Star Kelsey Plum (18.1 points per game) rounds out Las Vegas’s top-three scorers.
This will be the first time the two teams are matching up since playing against one another in the first round of the WNBA playoffs last season. The game between the Sky and the Aces tips off at 6 p.m. CT and can be viewed on Prime Video. It will also be available locally on the Marquee Sports Network app.
