TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Redshirt senior soccer player Emily Madril was named the ACC Defender of the Week after last week’s 4-0 win over FGCU and 2-1 win at No. 10 Auburn. It is Madril’s first career ACC Player of the Week honor.
Madril helped lead Florida State to a pair of victories against FGCU and No. 10 Auburn while only letting up one goal. With Madril leading the defense, the Seminoles limited the Eagles to just two shots in the contest as FSU earned its fourth shutout of the season.
Madril scored the second goal of the game on a penalty kick.
The Second Team All-American helped guide the Seminoles to their second top-10 win of the season, holding Auburn to just one goal on eight shots.
Madril also helped set up the game’s opening goal that happened just 29 seconds into the game. She kicked a beautiful deep ball to Jody Brown, who sent a one-touch pass to Beata Olsson at the top of the box. With a perfect pass from Brown, Olsson did not have to slow down and hit a one-timer into the right side of the net.
Florida State is back home on Saturday, September 18, to take on Boston College at 6 pm. Admission is free to all FSU soccer games.
