Chicago Sky emerged victorious over the Atlanta Dream, putting an end to a two-game losing streak

The Chicago Sky defeated the Atlanta Dream 85-77 on Tuesday, July 2 at Gateway Center Arena. With the win, the Sky advanced to 7-11 on the season, 4-7 against the Eastern Conference, 4-4 on the road and 36-25 against the Dream all time.

2024 WNBA All-Star Angel Reese recorded a 12-point, 19-rebound double-double to help knock off Atlanta. Her 19 rebounds are her career high and are the most in a single game by any WNBA player this season. Chennedy Carter recorded a season-high 26 points to lead the Sky in scoring. She also recorded four assists and two steals. Dana Evans scored 14 points while matching her season high with four made threes and Diamond DeShields scored nine points and two assists off the bench.

The Sky closed the game on 11-2 run from 2:21 to 0:23 in the fourth quarter.

Angel Reese has been honored with a selection to the 2024 WNBA All-Star Team

Angel Reese recorded her 11th straight double-double, putting her just one double-double shy of Candace Parker’s all-time consecutive double-double streak (12, spanning 2009-10). Reese broke the all-time single-season consecutive double-double streak when she reached 10 straight on June 30 against Minnesota.

Reese’s 12 double-doubles this season are the eighth-most in WNBA history in a player’s first season. Tina Charles (2010) has the record with 22 double-doubles (Across the Timeline).

Tonight marked Reese’s fourth game this season with 16 or more rebounds which leads the league.

Tina Charles led the way for the Dream with a 19-point, 14-rebound double-double. Allisha Gray matched Charles for team high in scoring with 19 points along with three rebounds and four assists. Jordin Canada and Cheyenne Parker-Tyus scored 11 points each.

The Sky stay on the road to take on the Seattle Storm on Friday, July 5 for the first of two straight games on the road against Seattle. This is the second matchup between the two teams this season, with the Storm previously defeating the Sky 68-77 in Chicago on May 28.

In that game, the Sky had four players score in double figures: Dana Evans (13), Elizabeth Williams (12), Chennedy Carter (12) and Angel Reese (11). Reese’s 12 rebounds signaled the first double-double of her career and were a career high at the time.

For the Storm, Skylar Diggins-Smith (21 points) and Jewell Loyd (19) combined for 40 of Seattle’s 77 points. Ezi Magbegor secured a 13-point, 12-rebound double-double while Nneka Ogwumike scored 10 points. Since that game, 2023 No. 9 overall pick Jordan Horston has continued to break out in her role, averaging 9.1 points and 4.4 rebounds since the teams last faced off.

The Sky are 20-25 against the Storm all time and 3-4 the Western Conference this season. Chicago and Seattle face off at 9 p.m. CT/7 p.m. PT at Climate Pledge Arena. The game will be available nationally on ION.
