Chicago Sky are currently on a three-game losing streak following their recent defeat to the Phoenix Mercury

The Chicago Sky fell to the Phoenix Mercury 88-93 on Sunday, Sept. 15 at Wintrust Arena. With the loss, the Sky lost the season series 0-3. Chicago is now 13-25 this season, 8-12 against the Western Conference, 6-14 at home, and 18-28 against Phoenix all time. Chicago, Washington, and Atlanta all now sit in a three-way tie for eighth in the WNBA standings. 

Chennedy Carter led the Sky in scoring for the fourth straight game, scoring 20 points. Michaela Onyenwere recorded 19 points, including a season-high four three-pointers, and grabbed nine rebounds . Rachel Banham notched 17 points, 12 of which came in the first quarter, and Dana Evans went 3 for 3 from the perimeter and scored 13 points off the bench. Isabelle Harrison rounded out the Sky’s double-digit scorers with 10 points off the bench.

The Mercury were led in scoring by Diana Taurasi with 25 points and Brittney Griner with 26 points, where Griner also grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double. Natasha Cloud also recorded a double-double with 18 points and 11 assists, while Sophie Cunningham contributed 13 points and five rebounds.

After tonight’s slate of games, the Sky are in ninth in the playoff picture. The Sky, Mystics and Dream are all 13-25, and the Sky currently place ninth due to tie-breaking procedures.

Griner passed Lindsay Whalen (5,523 career points) for 21st on the WNBA’s all-time points list with 5,547 after Sunday’s game.

Griner passed Margo Dydek (1,778 career defensive rebounds) for 16th on the WNBA’s all-time defensive rebounds list with 1,785.

Mercury set season high with 29 assists.

The Sky close out the regular season with a pair of road games against the Atlanta Dream on Sept. 17 and the Connecticut Sun on Sept. 19.
