Jannik Sinner has commenced his tenure at the top of the ATP Tour with an impressive start at the Terra Wortmann Open

In his inaugural tournament as the No. 1 player in the PIF ATP Rankings, Jannik Sinner secured his first title as World No. 1 at the Terra Wortmann Open.

”It means a lot. It was a tough match against Hubi,” Sinner said. “I tried to produce in the best possible way in the important moments. I’m very happy about this tournament because [winning for] the first time on grass court, it’s a good feeling.”

The Italian demonstrated strong performance throughout the event, ultimately defeating Hubert Hurkacz in the final to win the ATP 500 trophy. This victory marks Sinner’s first title on grass and his 14th tour-level championship overall.

”I’m just looking forward to it. Last year I made [the] semis, I played some good tennis. So let’s see what’s coming this year,” Sinner said. “I’m more confident for sure. And on this surface, obviously the grass might be a bit different from here and Wimbledon. But I have one week now to prepare [for] it, so hopefully it’s going to be a good tournament.”

Jannik Sinner has had a strong season through March, demonstrating impressive performance

Jannik Sinner has become the eighth player in history to win his first tournament as the World No. 1, and he is also the third active player to achieve this milestone, following Novak Djokovic (2011 Montreal) and Andy Murray (2016 Nitto ATP Finals).

As the excitement continues this week at the Rothesay International and the Mallorca Championships presented by Waterdrop, Sinner will shift his focus to Wimbledon, aiming to secure his second major title of the season.
