Jannik Sinner maintains his strong performance at the China Open

Jannik Sinner concluded his Grand Slam season by securing his second major trophy at the US Open; however, this achievement does not indicate that the World No. 1 intends to take a break.

The Italian player has arrived in Beijing for the China Open, where he aims to secure his seventh trophy of the season, a feat that would place him at the forefront of the Tour. Sinner is focusing on the present as he strives to become the first male competitor to successfully defend the title at the ATP 500 since Novak Djokovic achieved this distinction in 2015.

“I think I always try to improve,” said Sinner in his pre-tournament press conference. “It doesn’t really matter the results I have, what I managed to achieve, I always try to understand myself and what I have to improve off the court and on the court, all these things.”

Jannik Sinner demonstrated remarkable resilience at the Cincinnati Open

One of Jannik Sinner’s primary competitors for the ATP Year-End No. 1 title presented by PIF is also participating in the Beijing tournament. Carlos Alcaraz, who recently contributed to Team Europe’s success at the Laver Cup in Berlin, is the second seed in the Chinese capital. Last year, Alcaraz was defeated by Sinner in the semi-finals of this event. Currently, Alcaraz ranks third in the PIF ATP Race To Turin, trailing Sinner by 2,990 points.

Following Alcaraz’s successful qualification for the Nitto ATP Finals on Tuesday, alongside Sinner and Zverev, there are now five qualification spots remaining for the season finale. This week, Taylor Fritz, Hubert Hurkacz, and Casper Ruud are among the contenders competing at the ATP 500 event, the Kinoshita Group Japan Open Tennis Championships in Tokyo.
