The women’s doubles championship is set to be determined today. This match features last year’s US Open doubles champion and recent Wimbledon finalist, Erin Routliffe from New Zealand, who is currently ranked as the world No. 1 doubles player, alongside her partner, American Asia Muhammad. Muhammad has achieved a total of 10 career doubles titles, including two this year. They will compete against Canada’s Leylah Fernandez and Yulia Putintseva from Kazakhstan, who earned their place in the final after winning their semifinal match last night, following a three-hour singles quarterfinal in which Fernandez participated.
Fernandez notably reached the French Open doubles final in 2023. Putintseva, having previously upset second seed Coco Gauff in singles, is also making her second appearance in a career doubles final. This championship match offers both Fernandez and Putintseva the opportunity to secure their first doubles title.
Frances Tiafoe achieved his 200th career match win, making him the seventh American man to reach the semifinals in this tournament during the 21st century, and the first since John Isner in 2017. Additionally, there is an American competitor in the women’s semifinals, as Jessica Pegula advanced following her three-hour quarterfinal match on Saturday, marking her first semifinal appearance in Cincinnati. This achievement comes just a day after she spent three hours on the court winning two matches on Friday. Pegula is currently on an eight-match winning streak, having secured the title in Toronto on Monday.
Both world number one players, Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek, have advanced to the semifinals, where they will face challenging opponents. Sinner is set to take on 2021 champion Alexander Zverev, who currently holds a 4-1 advantage in their head-to-head matchups. Swiatek will compete against Aryna Sabalenka, who is making her fourth semifinal appearance in Cincinnati and is eager to secure her first final.
