Jannik Sinner has many positive experiences to reflect on from his impressive 2024 season. However, the Italian’s primary focus as he begins the new year at the Australian Open will be to build on his previous achievements.
The top-ranked player in the PIF ATP Rankings will compete against Nicolas Jarry to commence his title defense in Melbourne. The 23-year-old Sinner remains focused and cautious, even as he enters 2025 with an impressive record of 29 victories in his last 30 tour-level matches.
“It’s a very special place to be back,” said Sinner at his pre-tournament press conference. “Many things have changed on and off the court. I’m very glad that these memories will always be in my mind for so many years. Let’s see what I can do this year. It’s a question that I think [none] of us can answer, but it’s good to be back here, and we’ll see what the tournament is going to say.”

Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic, two of Jannik Sinner’s prominent rivals, are on a path towards a quarter-final matchup at Melbourne Park. Both athletes are pursuing a significant victory at the season’s opening Grand Slam event.
Novak Djokovic is pursuing his 100th tour-level title, aiming to secure a record-extending 11th Australian Open championship and his 25th major title overall. In contrast, 21-year-old Carlos Alcaraz, who has already won at Roland Garros, Wimbledon (twice), and the US Open, is seeking to become the youngest male player to achieve a Career Grand Slam.
