The fourth round of the 2023 Miami Open is a stage that American women would prefer to move past.
Seeded No. 3, Coco Gauff was defeated by unseeded Magda Linette with scores of 6-4, 6-4, resulting in her elimination from the tournament prior to the quarterfinal stage.
Defending champion Danielle Collins, along with Amanda Anisimova and Ashlyn Krueger, were eliminated in straight sets.
“It was not a great today,” Gauff said. “It has not been the last few weeks, I am trying to figure that out.”

Gauff has not yet advanced to the quarterfinals of the Miami Open.
Gauff faced challenges with her serve, resulting in 12 double faults.
Top seed Aryna Sabalenka demonstrated a strong performance, hitting 23 winners including seven aces to surpass Collins.
In the remaining four women’s Round of 16 matches on Monday, American Jessica Pegula secured a victory to advance to the quarterfinals on Wednesday, where she will face Emma Raducanu, who reached her first Miami Open quarterfinal. Additionally, 19-year-old wildcard Alexandra Eala progressed to her first WTA Tour quarterfinal via a walkover, following Paula Badosa’s withdrawal due to injury. Eala’s next opponent will be No. 2 seed Iga Swiatek, the reigning Miami Open champion from 2022.
Four of the top five seeds have advanced to the men’s Round of 16, led by No. 1 seed Alexander Zverev, who will compete against No. 17 Arthur Fils. Zverev’s victory on Monday marked his 81st ATP Masters 1000 win since 2020, the most of any player during that period. Fils is making his second consecutive appearance in the fourth round at an ATP Masters 1000 event.
Third seed American Taylor Fritz recovered from an earlier loss to Denis Shapovalov this season to reach the fourth round, where he will face lucky loser Adam Walton of Australia. Walton is a 2021 NCAA doubles champion at the University of Tennessee, where he earned both undergraduate and graduate degrees.
Fourth seed and six-time Miami Open champion Novak Djokovic continues his pursuit of his 100th career title, facing No. 15 Lorenzo Musetti. Fifth seed Casper Ruud aims to secure a spot in the quarterfinals against No. 23 Francisco Cerundolo.
