Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner’s inaugural appearance in a major final delivered an impressive performance.
The highly anticipated championship match at Roland Garros between the pair became the longest title encounter in the history of this clay-court major. Alcaraz, after losing the first two sets and facing three championship points, mounted a remarkable comeback to win with a final score of 4-6, 6-7(4), 6-4, 7-6(3), 7-6(10-2), delivering a memorable and competitive performance.
“This one was the most exciting match that I’ve played so far, without a doubt,” said Alcaraz after his five-hour, 29-minute win. “Today I think the match had everything, really good moments, really bad moments. Just really, really happy. I’m proud about how I deal with everything today.”
Alcaraz is only the ninth player in the Open Era to recover from two sets down to win a major final, and he is the third to secure a Grand Slam title match after saving championship points.
“I think the real champions are made in situations when you deal with that pressure, with those situations, in the best way possible,” said the 22-year-old in his post-match press conference. “That’s what the real champions have done in their whole careers. I’m just trying to feel comfortable in the situations with pressure and not be afraid of it.”
Carlos Alcaraz is currently riding a five-match winning streak against his rival Jannik Sinner. His impressive performance at the Paris tournament has effectively positioned him for the second half of the 2025 season. The Spaniard holds a lead of 1,790 points over Sinner in the PIF ATP Live Race to Turin, establishing a strong position in what promises to be an engaging contest for the ATP Year-End No. 1 ranking, presented by PIF.
