What is the projected performance of the Jacksonville Jaguars this season? I am uncertain.
The Jacksonville Jaguars, led by quarterback Trevor Lawrence, are positioned to contend for the AFC South title when considered on paper. Last season, the team finished with a 4-13 record and entered the offseason with several areas of uncertainty.
Injuries impacted the conclusion of his season; however, Lawrence faced challenges during the 10 games he participated in. His 61% completion percentage was the lowest among 36 qualifying quarterbacks in 2024, ranking below Anthony Richardson Sr.’s 48%.
The Jaguars were founded in 1995; they have had eight-playoff appearance as recent as the 2022 season and with fair runs. They can make a playoff improving from their four win season if healthy.

The Jaguars boast some of the most skilled special teams players in the league. Punter Logan Cooke, who was selected to his first Pro Bowl last season, leads the league with the highest net punt average (43.5 yards) and has pinned 83 punts inside the 10-yard line since entering the NFL in 2018. Long-snapper Ross Matiscik has earned Pro Bowl selections in the past two seasons and was named a first-team All-Pro in 2023. Kicker Cam Little successfully converted 27 of 29 field goal attempts, including a 59-yarder, and all 27 of his PATs during his rookie season. Additionally, he made a 70-yard field goal in the first preseason game earlier this month.
The run defense remains a concern; however, a significant issue last season was the defense’s lack of takeaways. The Jaguars recorded only nine turnovers, the fewest by any team in the 17-game era, tying the franchise record set in 2021. This included just six interceptions, which contributed to the Jaguars ranking last in the NFL in pass defense, allowing 257.4 passing yards per game. The team has added three new starters in the secondary—cornerbacks Jourdan Lewis and Travis Hunter, and safety Eric Murray—as well as pass rushers Emmanuel Ogbah, with 47.5 career sacks, and Dawuane Smoot, with 25. Additionally, Anthony Campanile has been appointed as the new defensive coordinator.
Hunter, the CB/WR, introduces a dynamic playmaking dimension to Coach Liam Coen’s system. Demonstrating quickness after the catch and exceptional open-field agility, Hunter also possesses elite ball skills and excellent body control at the catch point. While his overall offensive snap count has yet to be finalized, he is well-suited to serve as a WR3, with the potential to deliver WR2-level production in certain weeks due to his ability to significantly impact the field.
The combined percentage of snaps Hunter is projected to play on both offense and defense will total at least 145%. There are clear indications that the Jaguars plan to assign him a significant role on both sides of the ball.
The Jaguars are expected to improve under a new head coach, with projected wins totaling nine games this season.
