The Perfect Storm, Florida State Seminoles snap Miami Hurricanes win streak

The Florida State Seminoles versus Miami Hurricanes historic football rivalry has not had a sizzle in the last few years.

This will be the first one without the great Bobby Bowden alive.

However, there are signs that the future is bright for this rivalry for both teams, for the 66th edition. One team won, down to the wire again.

Seminoles quarterback Jordan Travis completed a fourth-and-14 pass to Andrew Parchment, and two plays later ran it in from 1 yard out with 26 seconds to go as Florida State defeated Miami 31-28.

Hurricanes had a chance with though many speculating after that on the Seminoles drive to allow them to score from the one-yard line to allow time on the clock for them to go down the field. The idea cost the Hurricanes, who had their three winning streak snapped.

Tyler Van Dyke, in the final possession driving to help the Hurricanes tie the game or win, spiked the football with two seconds remaining; however, the NCAA rule is three seconds has to be on the clock, two seconds were remaining. The game ended with a clock run-off.

Seminoles are 4-6, and Hurricanes fall to 5-5. Both still have a chance to become bowl eligible.

Hurricanes had a chance however, the mistakes hurt them from the start.

Van Dyke completed 25 of 47 passes for 316 yards with two interceptions for Miami. Seminoles frustrated the Hurricanes, forcing three turnovers in the first 15 minutes.

Seminoles now have an interception in six straight games and ten picks in 2021 after Omarion Cooper, who was making his first career start, and Jammie Robinson picked off Van Dyke in the first quarter.

Van Dyke had just one interception in a three-game win streak over NC State, Pittsburgh, and Georgia Tech.

Van Dyke threw for 300 yards for a fourth straight game, but the Hurricanes managed just 43 rushing yards on 23 carries (1.9 yards per carry).

Seminoles were scoreless in the third but able to snap a four-game slide in the series.

It does not look suitable for Diaz. The administration is willing to spend money on improving the football program, even if that is also in coach Diaz’s replacement.

The undisciplined football against the Seminoles, the mistake penalties, blowing the lead and miss management of the clock did not help Diaz in his case to remain as the head coach.

Hurricanes need to win the final two games to attend a bowl game and help keep the psyche of the young players together on the team. The head coaching position is up in the air one can only wonder what is going through the player’s mind.

This spring will be exciting since Van Dyke and Jake Garcia will be battling for the starting quarterback position. Unfortunately, he is hurt now; however, he will make the case when spring comes around.

The beat goes on; it will be senior night when the Hurricanes host Virginia tech.

Seminoles visit Boston College.
