The game started hot for the Miami Dolphins on the first play in their opening drive.
A 75-yard touchdown pass from Tua Tagovailoa to Trent Sherfield, ten seconds, 7-0 Dolphins.
The game ended with the nightmares of the San Francisco 49ers’ defense dancing in the ends of the Dolphins’ offensive as they remained in California for their next game.
Brock Purdy threw two touchdown passes after replacing Jimmy Garoppolo, and San Francisco used another dominant defensive performance to beat Miami 33-17 on Sunday for its fifth straight win.
Garoppolo left the game with a season-ending foot injury.
The Miami Dolphins started a three-game road trip versus the number one defense in the NFL the 49ers, led by Nick Bosa, and it was evident.
Mr. Irrelevant in the 2022 NFL Draft, Purdy, the last overall pick in the Draft took over for an injured Garoppolo.
Bosa finished with three sacks, taking advantage of a line missing starting tackles Terron Armstead and Austin Jackson.
For the fifth consecutive game, 17 or fewer points were allowed by the 49ers’ defense, their longest streak since 1997. The defense won the game for the 49ers, who lost their starting quarterback in the opening quarter.
The Dolphins make me cry, Miami has won five in a row but suffer key injury before road trip
Tagovailoa, who came into the game with three interceptions on the season, threw two in the third quarter to Jimmie Ward and Deommodore Lenoir to lead to a pair of field goals for the 49ers (8-4).
Dolphins committed four turnovers in the game.
Entering the game, the Dolphins’ offense averaged 25.6 ppg, 386 yards per game, and 292 passing yards, the best since the 1986 dolphins quarterbacked by Dan Marino.
Dolphins had their five-game win streak snapped, and the 49ers have won five in a row.
Tagovailoa was not himself in the game. There were so many throws he flat-out missed, and he is arguably the most accurate quarterback in the NFL this season.
The Dolphins missed Armstead and Jackson in this game as it was evident that it was hard to block Bosa, who leads the NFL in sacks. The backup tackles had issues all day protecting Tagovailoa. It affected him. His timing was not the same, the offense was out of sync in terms of running the football, and the offense turned the ball over, which they have not done all season long, 49ers defense was the answer to the Dolphins’ lost in this game.
Dolphins struggled to beat a rookie quarterback in Purdy; next week, they visit Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers. The Dolphins’ offense and defense will have to play better next week to beat the Chargers.
The Chargers defensively are not as good as the 49ers, but it will be a challenge on the road. A few positives stood out; Dolphins made a comeback down 13 points. If the Dolphins converted the 4th and two on the Mike Gesicki reception, they might have taken the lead in the game. The score is indicative of how close this football game was.
The offense and defense will play better against the Chargers. That is the one game I see the Dolphins winning on this three-game road trip.
